Half Square Triangles
To determine what size square to cut, just add one inch to the desired finished size of the half square triangles. These half square triangles will finish at 2 1/2 inches - the size needed for the Quilt Odyssey Vendor Block Hop.
Press. I like to use Mary Ellen's Best Press. Smells great, no flaking!
Place your QC2 ruler on the edge and trim.
Set the speed gauge at 3 1/2 inches.
Push down on the speed gauge to measure the strip.
I turned the fabric over - better contrast for photos.
Move the cutting guide to the front rail, trim edge of strip.
Measure with the speed gauge.
Measure and cut second square.
Two squares, cream fabric on the bottom, blue on the top.
Move the angle on the cutting guide to the 45 degree mark.
Line the ruler up, corner to corner on the square and cut.
Both squares cut in half on the 45 degree angle.
Stitch 1/4 inch seam.
Four half square triangles, chain pieced together.
Place darker fabric up, press to set seam.
Open half square triangle.
Press.
All four pressed and ready to trim.
I started using Invisigrip on my square up rulers. No slipping when trimming!
Trim right side and top first. Tucker Trimmer - fast, easy, and accurate way to trim half square and quarter square triangles.
Turn block, place on the 3 inch lines, and trim right side and top.
Perfect half square triangles every time!!!
